Magnesium chloride (30%) solution is mainly used as a dust suppressant on gravel roads. When applied to a freshly leveled road, its hygroscopic¹ properties allows the capture of moisture in the air and helps retain dust.  It also allows reduction of fine particles in the gravel and to maintain safer roads.

During the winter, magnesium chloride can be used as a pre-wetting agent in road salts (activating and improving the melting power). Liquid magnesium chloride can also be used as an impact attenuator.

Deriving from the magnesium industry, Calclo Mag is the only chloride-based dust suppressant entirely manufactured in Québec.
